Running Sheep - Chittering Area W.A

Hi all,

Novice farmer here. Have around 30 Acres of land available to run sheep (dorper preferably). There a small/medium dam already onsite, with a few tanks holding water around the place.

The plan is to buy 6-10 sheep, and graze them between the 2 paddocks initially, then move into a 3rd paddock and 4th eventually. Buying a lot more livestock eventually as I get used to the work involved.

Buying cattle on a hobby farm

Hi all, I just bought my first little slice of Australia. It's only a little hobby farm and it has a fair bit of work to get it up and running but we will get there. I'm looking at buying myself a few heifers to keep the grass down for the time being. My question is if I am only buying for personal use and not to sell what do I need to do to buy legally in qld? I know this question has probably come up a lot so thank you all for your time

New bale spikes - how tight is enough?

Hullo. New member and new farmer. My ancestors farmed cattle for generations but sold the last farm in 1896 so I inherited a bit of a knowledge gap.

Market for Lowline /miniature cattle?

Hi there, I am tentatively looking at stocking Lowline cattle (or something similar) on our 30 acres at Bell, near the Bunya Mountains. Coming from a beef producing family, I have had a few giggles from family members as to their profitability! Have purchased 'Small cattle for small farms' and waiting for it to be delivered.

Injector pump on Daedong (Kioti) DK 35

Hi there, I'm just wondering if anyone has had problems with the governor or injector pump on a Daedong (Kioti) DK 35 and if so was there a reasonably simple cure. The machine is not reving to its full revs when the throttle is fully open and when it idles it idles about 100 to 200 revs lower than what it should.

Leaking Dams

Hi,

my husband and I purchase last Nov a 108 acres of what is my dream property.            The previous owner was running just over 400 sheep right up to the day until the sale was finalised,  naturally,  everything was overgrazed.     The 2 existing dams he assured us they were exceptional, ( 1 being 2 yrs old) and the creek had water in it 80% of the year.   Neither true.

How to handle a boer goat (doe) for hoof trimming

Hi

I have a 4 year old doe who was not hand reared and is rather feisty.  As with my other 3 goats, I must trim her hooves regularly and at the moment she is in desperate need of a pedicure, walking on the sides of her feet.  Problem is that Princess has a rather nasty nature when you try to handle her and I don't have a holding yard or head bail.  Man handling has been the only option but this only perpetuates the problem.

Horse fence end assemblies

Hi,

Quick question for the fencing experts.

I am proposing to build some corner/end assemblies for some horse fencing. Corners will be done using 3x 75x2.5mm SHS posts (about 700mm in ground) with 3x 2m lengths of cattle rail evenly spaced between each post. Fence ends will be the same with 2x posts. Cattle rail to post will be fully welded.

Holes will be 300mm & full of concrete, set in reasonably hard ground in the Yass district.

Busselton sheep?

Looking at purchasing land in Busselton area. Everywhere I look the farms appear to stock cattle. I have a particular interest in sheep - is the area no good for sheep? Appreciate any guidance
