Best use of 73 acres

Hi, We live on 73 acres in Bucca, just a half hour NW of Bundaberg.  What would be the best use of the land so as to make some income so that we can apply for a farming concession for our Council rates.  After 9 years here we have 6 head of cattle (heifers) a row of Mango trees, two horses, and quite a number of native trees the timber from which has been sold in the past (before we owned the place).  This area was renowned for timber once - it produces tall straight trees.

Learning to farm

Hi there,

I'm interested in learning to farm, predominately sheep and alpacas in the Camden, NSW area.

I'm in the process of reading to get a better understanding of the requirements.

The intention is to make a living from farming and support my family.

I currently live on 1 acre and want to experiment with purchasing a couple of quality ewe's and ram (Suffolk) and then move slowly to Alpacas.

Baling hay after rain

Hi,

I'm new to hay harvesting and have cut and raked a paddock but it rained overnight before baling. There is possibly some rain forcast for tomorrow but none after that. Should I leave it and rake again once its dried, should I bale or is it a lost cause?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Can somebody refer me to a Rabbit Breeder?

Hi there,

I'd like to purchase a couple of NZ White Bucks and 4 Californian Doe's.

I am at my wits end trying to find a Breeder that sells either breed.

I'm in Victoria, so hopefully somebody can assist?

Stocking Rates

I have property in Diggers Rest Victoria which I want to run sheep and cattle on. The property is 28 hectares in total with 1 hectare for the house yard and another aprox 2 hectares fenced off for trees and a dam making the grazing area about 25 hectares. The average annual rainfall is aprox 525mm per year. The pasture is mosly native grasses, phalaris with some sub clover. I was just wondering what you think the stocking rate would be for this property. Thanks
