Water tanks for drinking water

Hi Everybody,

We've purchased a block with a shed house on and our longer term plan is to build our own house and new sheds.  We aim to have water tanks to collect rainwater from each of the new buildings but we're not sure what type of tank is suitable so that we can use the water for domestic purposes (particularly drinking).

Farm fencing plan

hi

new member here.

would like to get some opinions/ideas/advice on designing farm fencing. i am inheriting part of my fathers farm and its in need of new fencing. i am also moving it from a sheep farm to cattle production. i would like to know how wide a laneway should be?  i plan to have most paddocks along these 2 laneways i'll be putting in. with yards in a central position between the 2. also need to be able to get machinery into the paddocks from the laneway. what width laneway would suit?

thanks

On farm butchering and slaughtering

We are looking at starting a small slaughtering and butchering service of beef, lamb, pig, poultry and value added products for sale to the public and am asking what accreditation we need and the legalities that relate to this field. I am a qualified butcher already and will have 2 partners that will be entering the business with me. Would love to get your expert advice on this matter.

Beginner with a few questions

Hi all,

I have spent a little time on a close friend's property in QLD, and am wanting to get into the hobby farm game myself.

I'm in the very early stages or working the financials of it all and i think i'm on the right track, but any advise is appreciated.

The workings of second mortgages etc are all sorted, what i need to know is if i am working out buy/sell prices for cattle correctly.

The figures I have been given so far are:

Buy price - $1.75/kg for roughly 250kg weener

How do you find an accountant that specialises in small farms?

My wife and I have a 15 acre farm in Toongabbie, Victoria. We've received a notice from council asking us to prove that we're "primary producers" or have (proper) plans to be. To do this we need an accountant who's on the ball with the intricacies of small farming ventures and can help us put this plan together so that the council can see what we want to do. We've only just moved in and spent a fortune on fences so there's not much left at present to get stock...

How do we find such an accountant?

Leasing farm and abn

Hello all, I have purchased a small holding of 100 acres and will be building on it over the next 12 months. In between time, I have someone who wants to lease the rest of the land which will be for about $4000 annually.
