Clearing paddock of rocks and other debris

I have a BX2670 Kubota to help me with some of the heavy jobs around the property. The sales person recommended that I buy a stick rake to help aerate the soil and clean the surface of rocky debris plus sticks and leaves.

Expectations and surprises

Hi all, Just thought I would start a thread for people to comment on how things are going in general on their farms, or in their search for a farm, is it everything you dreamed? Your lessons and wisdom could be helpful to others. I'll start...one year living on my farm.

Demolishing Pig Pens

Hi,

Just bought a 20 acre block and completely new to farming. Property has an old pig pen on it which we want to remove. Have been told that we will have to remove the dirt beneath and around the pig pen due to diseases. Also have been told that the area cant be used for any other purpose for several years.

Can anyone give me some more  information on this please?

Cheers

How do eradicate salt from my dam?

I've recently had my dam water tested after killing my veggie crop (new home). It came back 3400 ec, so little wonder everything died. I've been advised the salt level will dilute in winter as the dam fills with rain water, however it won't be good enough for plants still. The salt level is high due to a bore which has been run into it over several years. Has anyone been in this situation and have they found it effective to completely drain the dam? Or would I also need to have a certain amount of the dam dirt scraped out to eradicate the salt issue?

Best farm dog breed

Happy Easter everyone!

I know there is probably not one definitive answer.....we are in the process of purchasing a 5 acre property on the mid North Coast. We would like a dog. We couldn't have one in Sydney as the yard is too small and we were spending too much time away from the house.

Plants list toxic for sheep

Can anyone refer me to a site that can tell me what plants are toxic to sheep? I am looking to plant a wind break and Photinia and Leightons green seem to have mixed responses.

Crop field map in New South Wales

Hi ALL,

I am student in The University of New South Wales. I am now studying the crops in the Coleambally Irrigation Area. I am looking for a map that contains the spatial distributions of crops in that area, i.e., the crop type planted in each field. Does anyone have information on this? Thank you very much!

Regards, Bob.

Hi all, I could use some advice

Hello everyone.
we're new on this forum and glad to be here. First, I would like to introduce us a little bit, it also helps you to understand the plans in our mind. We're a couple, I was born and raised in Switzerland, Jacky in Australia, curently living in Canada. Both have background in farming. So, we want to move to Oz and our plan is, to start a small dairy after we sell our business here and after I'm legally aloud to work, as I'm not Aussie nor having PR.

Costs of sinking a bore?

Hi,

I know that there are a lot of variables in establishing the cost of sinking a bore however I would appreciate some idea of what it has cost people to put one in.

Does any one want to plant potatoes?

I am trying to find a way to reach out to small hobby farmers or people with land that would consider buying a single row planter/seeder for potatoes, sweet potatoes, garlic and the like.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, I have already printed flyers, had ads in news papers (including TAS country) and online advertising, yet a guy two farms down from me wasn't aware that I had these machines.

Where am I going wrong?
