How much water do you use and need???

Hi Guys,

Been quite busy with some other projects, but curious to know if/what/how much additional water (over the top of say catchment on your house roofs etc.) you would like to capture in the event of a rain event. I.e, if the forecast is showing a high chance of rain in your area, would it be of any value to you to have a system, that was mobile that you could essentially drop anywhere on your property with the ability to capture up to 800,000 litres (0.8 ml). If yes, what would it be worth to you?

Blady grass eradication

Hi,

I'm a new member and joined to share information re small farming. I currently have a problem with blady grass in rocky areas (slashing not possible). I have spoken to so many 'experts' and they all have a different opinion. From our experience, burning is the worst possible treatment but spraying normally with 'Roundup' does not seem to work either. Any ideas?

Planting wind breaks

I am looking at planting 2 wind breaks to protect the pasture for my stock. In my area it is common practice to use chicken manure to fertilise paddocks followed by the use of Dolimite the following year. This comes with its challengers but pasture responds very well in an area that has very sandy soil in a mountains district close to the coast.

Rules/regulations for owning sheep/goats in NSW - help!

Hi there

Recently bought a 5 acre property in Lithgow/Portland NSW area (not terribly hot in summer, frost in winter).  At the moment the paddocks are divided into 5 different areas - one of which contains a dam. It is horribly overgrown with god knows what.. Neighbour reckons its a mix of grasses, wheat etc.

Anyway.. thought we'd get some sheep in to help keep it all down (our tiny ride on mower isnt up to cutting that much grass!).

Growing garlic

Hi I have 2.5 acres and was wanting to grow garlic as a side business. I was wanting to know if you can make a side business out of growing garlic and what would be the best way to sell it through a broker or markets. Thanks nathan

Best wishes

Hi All,

wishing everyone a great Christmas break and a very happy and prosperous new year with enough rain, sun and fat livestock in the paddocks and wonderful fruits and vegetables in your gardens.

2 yr old Dorper as a pet?

Hi, I am on 20 acres and have a 12 mnth cow, 12 mnth steer and 2 goats as pets and have been asked if i would like to have a 2 yr old dorper as my friend no longer wants her. Apparently she was with a ram and had a lamb but the ram killed the baby so the friend got rid of the ram and now has decided to get rid of this sheep as well (not sure how long ago all this happened).
