Tractors

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the info on leasing/ agisting.

Next question:  I would appreciate some advice/ experience on purchasing a tractor, namely I am looking for a small-medium size tractor for a variety of tasks on 180 odd acres.  I have seen a range of tractors at the more cost effective end of the spectrum which appear to be a Japanese rebuild with a bucket attached that comes with a 3 month warranty OR a new chinese or Indian model of comparable price that has a 2 year warranty.

Olive oil processing

Olive processing. After I have crushed the olives I want to use a centrifuge instead of cold press. I have a DHC 250 disc separator, 3 stage centrifuge, that I am having issues getting set up. Has anyone got a similar machine and has expertise in the installation of this type of separator? Stan

On farm home butchering

When butchering your own livestock on site for your own meat supply, how do people dispose of the resulting carcass/bones? Are there any web links to Victorian regulations regarding disposal requirements and/or laws?

Looking at purchasing in Scenic Rim area.

Hi All!

First post here and looking for a little guidance before I buy a property! Hoping to run a small farm and make a little money, but will not be relying on it to survive.

I am looking to purchase a property between Ipswich and Boonah in the Scenic Rim area, and from my research and talking to people, the area is predominantly scrub soil, used for beef or hay/feed crops. etc.

I was hoping to have a rather decent size vegetable garden, have a few cows for meat and have some pasture for them.

Best Tree Crops for Victoria

Hi Everybody,

My long term plan is to live on a small farm, to grow my own food, and also have an additional crop that I can make a little extra money on.

I am not planning on making the move for a few years. But I have saved enough money to purchase some land now and begin improving it. I am considering planting a tree crop that will take a few years to mature, so by the time I am ready to make the move it will be mature, and I can start making additional income of the crop when I do finally move.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Machine to automatically collect and compost manure

Hi guys,

I'm working on a uni project for an agriculture class. I'll try and keep this as brief as possible as I just have a few questions:

How much time would the average livestock farm spend on collecting manure from pastures?

Does manure affect pasture rotation?

Would it be useful to have a machine that automatically collected and composted livestock manure (primarily cattle)?

I'd really appreciate some insight! Thanks!
