Hi from South Australia.

Morning,

I've just signed up on behalf of my father (but he doesn't know).

He's been a hobby sheep farmer for about 10 years now, and things have started getting a little more serious in the last few years. His flock of 15 sheep has expanded out to around 200 and I'm trying to find out a bit of information for him and give him some help.

New property and not sure what to use all the amazing utilites for ???

Hello we have just purchased 30 acres near Bonnie Doon in Vic, approx 10 acres is well cleared with sensational fencing and the most amazing shelters, water, stables all seperated from each other with own fencing  etc however i dont think the land will take care of horses for example.

Does anyone have any suggestion on what would be an easy animal to have here, the bush area is no good for animals but certainly the cleared area has outstanding use for something????

Abattoir experiences and costings

Hi all,

as someone who is yet to take his first animal to slaughter, I'm just curious about what other people's experiences have been like with their local (or not so local) abattoir. Have you found the services on offer to your liking, with a wide range of selections, or with unbearable limitations? And what are the costs like per beast, for any beast, from poultry to cattle?

Thanks in advance for all of your input.

Slaughtering sheep and cattle for the use of family and friends

Hi all,

I've recently purchased a 30 acre hobby farm and I'm looking to get some sheep and cattle to start grazing the grass in the next couple of months (as well as starting up a large orchard on the rest of the land).

Zero turn mowers

Hi, looking for advice regarding purchase of zero turn mowers to cover paddocks that are a bit uneven on a property approx 50 acres in total.  Ease of operation  and reliability are most important.  HAve a small cox ride on which i really like.  Probably mid range with a decent cut width, any advice from personal experience appreciated

Thanks

Jane

What to use 160 acres for

Hello Farmers, I have access to 160 acre block in South West Queensland . It comes with a town powered bore, small yards, 8mx4m shed, loading ramp ,troughs and buffell grass and possible 600mm rainfall per year.I'm wanting to use it to supplement our income not sure in what direction to go fat lambs or maybe goats as they need less attention and dollars to breed .I may need to pay a small lease or rent fee as I have a share in the land.I have liitle to start with and am keen to hear your ideas need to dummb it right back for me but.

ATV

Does anyone know an ex hobby farmer that has a powerful 4wd ATV for sale. I have had one ofr 6 months and it is clapped out looking to buy one but brand new prices are huge.

Also I have tracked out one of my paddocks getting a ute bogged and Sy=teer tracking out. Is there anything I should do to ensure ground not full of holes when dries up?

Many thanks

Very Green at this farming idea. Any help and suggestions welcome.

Hi guys, My wife and i are looking at buying 100 acres(in the middle of negotiations) in the Northern rivers of nsw. Never been a farmer but spent a couple of years working on a dairy I'm thinking about buying a dozen or more weaner steers and letting them suport themselves...... water is not a problem thanks to the 6 dams and the land is nice and green for this time of year. I work fifo so im home every 4 weeks for a week but want something that isnt going to take to much for my wife to gain control of while im not here. I understand im going to need an abn and pic? where do i get these?
