Disabled farm stay

We have an adult son with cerebral palsy and would like to find a suitable farm stay experience close to Sydney.

We use to go to a goat farm in the Upper Hunter region but the owners retired and sold the farm. It was a terrific time and we became very friendly with the owners to the point where I would go up and help with the farm work. I really miss it.

Is there anyone out there who knows a disable farm stay with warm friendly people.

Thanks

Dave

Farming as a tax deduction?

Hi,

I am currently investigating options for reducing my tax liability for next financial year and into the future.  I am currently self employed in the construction industry and have a reasonably high income and very few deductions which means I give way to much money to the government.

Farm dam

Hullo

This must be a simple question to answer but we've no idea how to approch it.

How do we work out how big to make a dam for water for our sheep and cattle?  We need to plan for water as there is no water system on the property for the animals and we're only on rainwater for the house and summer will come soon enogh.

If sheep and cows are to drink water from the dam, how deep do we make the dam so they can still drink when it gets low. Will the sheep get stuck in it if too deep or sides too steep? Hoq do other farmers do this?

Any ideas will be welcome

I have read about needing $20,000 turnover on this forum and also had in mentioned by accountant along with other 'rules' to class promary production activities as a business however, I don;t know where this information comes from. I cannot find anymontion of it on the ATO website, only guidelines as to what constitutes carring on a primary production activity.

Successful product: bird scarer

Hello,

Happily I am posting to report a success! After years of hearbreak with birds raiding our persimmon tree, I lashed out on a move-ment actitvated sprinkler last week. It has been a tremendous succes so far. Not a single myna bird feating on the fruit - and we normally have them as thick as a locust plague. I think the fruit bat is staying away too, although it is a cunning creature and it may still be coming when I am not watching (birds all day, bats all night, fruit fly 24/7).

I hope the deterrent factor will last and they won't get used to it.

Mobile Broadband

I have been advised that I can only get Mobile Broadband - as opposed to ADSL or cable - on my property outside Casino, NSW. Does anyone know if there are government rebates, discounts or any other subsidy for remote rural properties, as the cost of having this is very expensive (up to $90.00 for 15gb per month). I spoke with Telstra who could only offer a discount on the modem rental at $48.00 per year.

I would like to use the internet to run my online goats milk soap business and not sure if 15gb is even enough for this.

Thanks in advance

I have 100 acres of mainly natural bushland east of Crows Nest Qld, and am looking for a viable venture to make use of at least some of the property. I prefer to grow something rather the have animals.  I was thinking of herbs, garlic, wild flowers, can anyone provide any advice. Is there a demand for anything?

thanks

Sue
