Demolishing Pig Pens

Hi,

Just bought a 20 acre block and completely new to farming. Property has an old pig pen on it which we want to remove. Have been told that we will have to remove the dirt beneath and around the pig pen due to diseases. Also have been told that the area cant be used for any other purpose for several years.

Can anyone give me some more  information on this please?

Cheers

Hi

My wife and I are so new to farming we don't have a farm yet.

Our daughter has purchased 142 acres near Marmor (45k south of Rockhampton) and is planning to stay for many years, and we will be retiring there in a year or two.

Her plans are to keep her two horses in the front 20 to 30 acre area with the house and run 12 to 20 cattle on the rest, of which half is hills and trees.

To the layman, the notion of weighing a silo sounds absurd. How could it be possible to weigh something as huge and heavy as a silo?

To those in the know, weighing the contents of silos and tanks is a perfectly normal practice - and for many enterprises and business, it’s an integral part of their everyday operations.

Five years in- Hobby farm with Wiltipoll sheep near Dubbo.

Hi. We have had our 70 acres for 5 years now. Both husband and I were raised on large properties and we decided to buy a hobby farm to raise our children . My parents have 6000 acres two hours away and we often lend a hand there still.

Newbie with a micro-farm

Hi all,

Another newbie here, from South-West Victoria, completing on 5 acres in the next month and then the hobby dream begins!

Rough plan:

Yr 0 - Chooks (start 5-10 then increase to 20), install multiple large growing beds

Yr 1 - Sort out pasture on paddocks and observe land for a season cycle

Yr 1 - introduce some hives to the property

Yr 2 - plant mixed orchard on now fertile land (thanks chooks!) - and Hops!

Yr 3 - introduce a few lambs to the pasture to fatten up, and more bees!
