Dorpers jumping through fences

Hi,

I'm wondering if someone can help me.

I used to own what I believe were Poll dorsets and had no issues except in finding shearers to come out for such a small flock of only 5 sheep.

Recently, I sold the 5 Poll dorsets and bought 5 dorpers so shearing wouldn't be an issue, but now find they're jumping through and over my fences into other people's properties.

Should I till, use harrows or just let it be?

Should I till, use harrows or just let it be?

Hi - Newbie here and to farming in general.

I have approx 4 acres of land on a 16 acre property that has been left to to its own thing for the past 5 years. The Setaria grass was 6 feet tall and I cut walking paths through it. Recently I have had neighbours horses chomping it down (with calcium supplements) and I have run a slasher over half of it.

I am wanting to fence off some paddocks for Alpaca, goats and some other small breeds.

Do I need to fence off my dam with cows?

Do I need to fence off my dam with cows?

We are thinking of putting a couple of cows in our small back paddock. Never had livestock before. The paddock contains a dam and we are not sure if we need to fence it off and out in a trough, or can just let them access the dam. Hoping for a voice/s of experience please.

Eastwind df554

I recently got a 2nd hand Eastwind DF554. My problem is the 3-point linkage arms wont lower. My guess is the 3-point speed control valve needs backing off. My problem is I don’t know where to find it!
Anybody out there know?
I’d buy a service manual if I could find one, too - any tips on that?

We are white-blue collar couple from Melbourne and we would like to purchase the farm 15ha in Ballarat area.
The farm has app 800 established olive trees + 200 recently planted (app 1000 total).
Spanish types: Correggiolo & Manzanillo.

We would like to get insight the core of the Olive production. Current owner does not have much information about how many kg per year of olives is possible to harvest as he let someone to care for the farm in return to have the right to take all olives.

Typical seasonal variability coastal NSW

Hello,

Does anyone know where I can get typical carrying capacity variability for coastal, northern NSW month by month? I've seen the DPI website and they give average carry capacity per hectare, but I'm interested in getting a rough idea of how variable the average is. We are looking at a couple of farms, potentially around Gloucester, or more coastal between Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour.

Based on the DPI site we are guessing an average ~8DSE/Ha, but how would that vary month by month throughout the year? For example would it range from 6 to 10?

Seeding practices

Hi, I'm not a farmer yet but hopefully soon I will be. I like all things agriculture and like to learn everything there is about where my food comes from.
I live in WA with sandy soils and now that it's seeding time I was wondering if anyone can tell me if farmers stop seeding when the rain starts or do they plant through the rain? How much rain does it take before they stop seeding? I know that in heavy clay soils it takes a few days to dry off before they can continue seeding. Also, how many months does it take for wheat to reach maturity?
