Dam/silt pond dried out and grass filled - what do I do?

Hello I'm in qld on the Sunshine Coast. It's very dry here. The silt pond that leads to the dam has now totally dried out and is filled with grass/ weed.rain should come soon. Should I get the grass and weed out before the rain or let the anticipated water drown it? Will the rotting vegetation cause difficulty in the dam? The dam is used to water gardens and allow ducks to swim. Thanks for your advice.

Hi, now is the time to clean your dam out. Get a contractor in with a bulldozer and they

can cut it out right into they clay we made our dam about 4 times the size of what it

was and put a big spoon drain around the hill and it filled up in no time. Cost about

$7000 but it was money well spent.

With farm dams the advice to clean out is good. The best time is when empty

With dams the size of the property in NSW dicatates the harvetable right unless from a spring

It is god to shape the dam according to use - stock shallow entry point - watering deep point for syphon
