New Guy - WA

Hi everyone ,

Unfortunately I am not a farm owner , however the plan is to one day have at least 100 acres .

But to get to the point , I am a recreational hunter / Shooter and would like to ask/offer WA owners if they have need for someone to help with pest eradication ?

I am fully licsenced , SSAA member ( so I have insurance), mature, family man who is happy to be fully self sufficient should needs be .

I will not encroach your house, I will respect your requests and only require access water if staying for more than 2 days .

Introducing boer billy goats into a feral herd

Hi, I was planning to introduce a number of boer goat billy's into a feral herd. Do I need to remove the feral billies completely prior to this? How do the boer goat billies compete for mating as against the feral billies?

Cheers,

Tony

Alpaca breeding is becoming a serious business among small landholders in Western Australia and they are set to celebrate during National Alpaca Week on 12 -20 May.

HAY: will i have to fetilise and seed if i want to cut hay again this year

hello i would like to ask a question on hay making i have a farm i purchased a few years ago the back 15 to 20 acres are seperated by a river which is quite full from june to nov-dec each year .i only stock sheep which wont cross the river when its full  so this back paddock is cut off to grow during these months  last year i got a contractor in to cut and bale this grass and got 580 bales off this paddock the resulting hay was very good and was sold for horse and cattle feed

Farm machinery, especially tractors, can be expensive to purchase and a questionable use of capital, particularly if only used occasionally during the year – as is the case on many small farms. The cost factor is one of the most compelling reasons to look at alternatives to outright ownership. This article will explore some of these alternatives and compare them to ownership.

Setting up land for horse paddocks

I have 14 acres of rhodes grass which is waist high.  I plan to divide it into half acre paddocks but can't get the fencer in till the grass is shorter.  How would you suggest to cut the rhodes grass?

It has previously been baled but it's very wet at the moment, do you have to wait till the grass is dry to cut and then bale it?
