Dexter Cattle or Small Breed/Miniature Cattle Breeders in CQ

Hi All, 

 

We have recently purchased 30 acres in Bungundarra, Yeppoon area and we are wanting to run a small herd of cattle just as lawn mowers/pets.

 

I have done my research on breeds etc and read all the books but what I am having real trouble with is finding breeders of small/miniature cattle in Rockhampton area or even the Central Qld area!  Ideally I would like to run dexters but also like galloway cattle and miniature herefords.

 

My question to you all is does anyone know of any breeders of these type of cattle that are in this area fo me to get in contact with a perhaps purchase some cattle :-)

Hi Kiera & welcome I am new to this as well and like you I loved the Dexter but have gone off them for hot climate as they have long hair.

This is bad for a couple of reasons the first being it so hot for them would you like to wear your overcoat in 40c temperature.The other reason is Ticks long hair makes it easier for ticks to climb aboard.I have now swiched my prferance to square Meaters check them out our try a breed from asia.

Hello Kiera, I am in the same situation at the moment and in the Capricornia area and just wondering if you ended up purchasing dexters or another breed and keen to know how you got on. We are currently trying to find someone locally who has dexters for sale and thought you may know of someone. Would rather not have to travel too far. Thanks Kathleen
