Pasture improvement

Hope some one can give me some advice. My wife & I have just purchased 7.5 acres in Millthorpe NSW. Its my chance to get away from the rat race ( Sydney ) and start to plant out the property for future established trees & possibly put in some vines while everyone else in Australia seems to be ripping them out. Eventually we will build & have this as our Rural getaway. We love the region & its surroundings.

This compost pile was the star attraction for more than 100 farmers and agricultural industry members, who flocked to Craig Mathews’ Bass Coast dairy  farm to find out more about on-farm composting.

When it comes to grass – whether it’s in the paddock or around the house –  there always seems to be too little or too much. With so many jobs to do  around the farm, lawn mowing is often left until last.

A ride-on mower is one piece of farm machinery that can make the job of lawn mowing a faster, easier and safer task.

Leasing or agisting livestock

Hi Guys,

I found this site on the weekend - plenty of answers already for a newcomer to farming.

I am in the process of finalising the sale on 180 acres in the Tweed shire.  It has 40 cattle on it at the moment that will go after settlement.  I will spend the next few years travelling back and forth so am interested in getting some cattle on the property to keep the grass down.

I would like to lease the land for grazing and would appreciate any advice on how this works, namely:

- are these agreements formal or are they 'handshake' deals;

Managing an orchard can be incredibly rewarding, but for small landholders just embarking on such a development, it can be a very complex operation.

Milking machine

Hi all,

I am looking for a second hand milking machine for one cow.

Does anyone have one that they are looking to sell or know where I can locate one?

Regards,

Margret

Disabled farm stay

We have an adult son with cerebral palsy and would like to find a suitable farm stay experience close to Sydney.

We use to go to a goat farm in the Upper Hunter region but the owners retired and sold the farm. It was a terrific time and we became very friendly with the owners to the point where I would go up and help with the farm work. I really miss it.

Is there anyone out there who knows a disable farm stay with warm friendly people.

Thanks

Dave
