Planting wind breaks

I am looking at planting 2 wind breaks to protect the pasture for my stock. In my area it is common practice to use chicken manure to fertilise paddocks followed by the use of Dolimite the following year. This comes with its challengers but pasture responds very well in an area that has very sandy soil in a mountains district close to the coast.

Me again! 18 acres - how much work?

Hello, me again. We've found another property we really like in the Northern Rivers area of NSW. This property is 18 acres of amazingly good pasture. There's currently about 20 full size cattle on it and the paddocks are so overgrown it's not funny! There's a lovely fresh creek that runs from a spring up the hill and a bore so water for the animals isn't an issue either.

Keeping a pet cow on 1 acre?

Hi, we've been looking for a 5-10 acre farm for a while but haven't found our perfect property yet. We have found a 1 1/2 acre property that other than being smaller, ticks every single one of our boxes in terms of house and yard for the kids etc. The problem is, one of our kids is dead set on getting a pet cow (probably a mini).

Advice on tick control

Hello, I am brand new to farming and have purchased 3 Murray grey heifers. We have heaps of ticks and buffalo fly. After trying to read up on what to use I went with Bayer Bomectin pour on. It work well for the first 3 weeks but now the cattle are covered in ticks and flys again. I dont know what to do now .... what can i use . We dont have any dipping equipment and went for a pour on because of this reason. We are on 5 acres and only have the 3 cows. Any help  and advise would be greatly appreciated please.

thank you Sally

Rules/regulations for owning sheep/goats in NSW - help!

Hi there

Recently bought a 5 acre property in Lithgow/Portland NSW area (not terribly hot in summer, frost in winter).  At the moment the paddocks are divided into 5 different areas - one of which contains a dam. It is horribly overgrown with god knows what.. Neighbour reckons its a mix of grasses, wheat etc.

Anyway.. thought we'd get some sheep in to help keep it all down (our tiny ride on mower isnt up to cutting that much grass!).

Suggestions, Please

Suggestions, Please

G'day!

We live just outside of Cavendish, Victoria, Australia.  We have 45 acres.  We bought it as the insurance result of a 4WD hitting my husband when he was on his motorbike. This happened in a 90km/hr. zone. My husband was not at fault but nearly died.  He is now 58, the accident having happened in 2006.

We bought the place because it is relatively isolated and he suffers from PTSD.  He has a bit of a farming history, having been brought up on a milking farm, although he has worked in differing occupations.
