Fish farming

Hi, my name is Debra Sala Tenna,

Can someone please let me know what fish can be farmed commercially in the Mansfield (Vic) area? Ideally I would like to farm Barramundi, how would they fare in this climate. I am planning to house the ponds in sheds and integrtare them into an aquaponics setup.

Thanks in advance, Debra Sala Tenna

Olive business

Hi, my partner and I are looking at purchasing a property that currently has 2000plus olive trees on it. At this stage I am unsure of what type of olives they are however the ad does say they are mature. As far as I'm aware they are just planted on the property but are not currently being harvested or run as a business.

Cattle branding - fire v electric

We are about to brand for the first time - about a dozen head this year, never more than that in future. Not sure whether to opt for a fire brand or an electric - which is better for smallholders like us? Thanks Peter

Small landholders, Andrew and Bettina Pretsel, are giving pickled walnuts a new lease of life and turning a small niche product into a hit with gourmet food customers.

Selling the product
There is currently a small niche market for pickled walnuts as they are a largely unknown product. They have a long shelf life which is an advantage when building new markets.

How to remove algae from troughs

Just wondering if anyone has any solutions to getting rid of algae in water troughs (supplied by bore water)?

And any way to prevent it from occuring?

Thanks

Cattle forage oat crop - is it safe

Hi All,

We put in a forage oat crop earlier in the year and have been strip feeding our cattle on it.

My concern is the oats have now set seed and wondering if it is still safe to feed off without risk of bloat etc?

Thanks in advance

Question about loading scrub/wild bulls?

Will a scrub/ very wild bull loaded onto a truck be fine on its own or will it go mad and try and bust out of the truck? and has this ever happened  before?
