Almost Time to Make the Move
With years passing by (faster these days it seems), it is almost time time to make the move from city life to a childhood dream of living in the country. With little in the way of savings and still having a mortgage, the plan is to sell my outer city home and with what is left after paying off the mortgage, find a small holding of around 20 acres and under 100 acres.
I want to run a small boutique boarding kennel and would like to run a small number of sheep mostly for herding training of our dogs (they are working breeds). If there is room some, Alpacas. I am looking at staying within NSW
I have a couple of questions that I hope those that have been though this, might be able to answer.
1. Is this doable on a shoe-string budget (purchase price of the property <$500,000) or is this just pie in the sky type dreaming?
2.Which areas should I be looking in considering finance is very very tight but also my wish to have some sheep and Alpacas?
3. Can you be both self sustaining and generate an income by selling at "Farmers Markets" from a small holding and how difficult is it to enter the markets as a seller?
All newbie questions I'm sure but I fear if I do not make the move soon, it just will not happen.
