As I have been having trouble with urinary calculi in my wethered goats & before I put out salt blocks to encourage extra water consumption I thought it may be a good idea to have the dam water tested to see if a problem & answer to the UC lay there.

Me and my partner are fairly young (20 and 21) but are looking at buying lnd in the next year or so and start farming. I'm from a long line of farmers, the last being my grandfathers (one being a sheep farmer and crops, the other growing up on a dairy farm), however my dad grew up on a farm, and worked there until his 20's. I studied Ag in high school and really loved it.

I have just purchased an old B250 tractor and would like to improve the pasture for sheep on five of seven acres and prepare beds for barley, hops and grapes on the rest (home consumption of course). The property is located in Murrumbateman; located between Yass and Canberra in Southern Tablelands of NSW.

I am unsure of the best approach when it comes to what type of plough is best for my purpose. Is there a "general use" plough or do I need to use a mouldbaord to turn the soil followed by harrows to break it up? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

hi all' my name is larry 'this question is for royce [or anyone else] for that matter...i am looking at buyingand this is my first go at it.. a kubota -sunshine zli-43 grey import from a fellow i know.he has had it for 16 years and it's very tidy and would suit me fine.   point is when i rang kubota aust they made me aware that parts would be hard to source should i ever need too.my local agent on the sunshine coast was helpful and said basically the same thing.the. thing is i am not great mechanically? any thoughts or questions would be appreciated   thanks

Hi, I'm a new member so introducing myself.

At the moment the farm is just an idea, but we're researching a lot and hoping to make it a reality over the next few years.  We're hoping to create a small self-sufficient, organic, permaculture farm, mainly for our own benefits, but also to hopefully educate and entertain the local youth groups and stuff too...lots of ideas.  We're looking at north west Brisbane hills...perhaps somewhere near Samford Valley or Dayboro.

This site looks amazing, I've been on it for ages already, great to find it!

My wife and I are 31 and 33 respectively.  We are both working full time. We have recently purchased our second house after renovating our first one over a period of 3 years and making a profit of 45k.  Our new house is near new and we are doing a lot of work on the landscaping.  We are both from New Zealand and enjoy animals and gardening and a very keen on sustainable living.

I am new to the forum and looking forward to exchanging advice and information on small farming.

We  have just had one of our belted galloway cows die in the paddock .....she has a 4 month old bull calf who we assume we will have to bring in and hand feed. This is a first for us and we have no idea what the normal protocol is.....what should we feed the calf at this age and for how long? Is it likely that one of the other cows feeding their calves will allow him to feed from them?
