Grass growing red in patches

Hi Charlie and Robb,

My turn to ask a question. My friend has red volcanic soil which is sown to Bisset Creeping Blue grass. She asked me today why there are patches of the pasture where the leaves of the grass are turning red. I told her that it might be due to a lack of phophorous and perhaps sulphur and she may need to fertilise with single super. I have also recomended that she have a soil test done. As I am no expert on pasture, I thought I would ask the experts.

Hi Guys,

Been quite busy with some other projects, but curious to know if/what/how much additional water (over the top of say catchment on your house roofs etc.) you would like to capture in the event of a rain event. I.e, if the forecast is showing a high chance of rain in your area, would it be of any value to you to have a system, that was mobile that you could essentially drop anywhere on your property with the ability to capture up to 800,000 litres (0.8 ml). If yes, what would it be worth to you?

Blady grass eradication

Hi,

I'm a new member and joined to share information re small farming. I currently have a problem with blady grass in rocky areas (slashing not possible). I have spoken to so many 'experts' and they all have a different opinion. From our experience, burning is the worst possible treatment but spraying normally with 'Roundup' does not seem to work either. Any ideas?

Best way to buy cattle

Hi all,

I am new to farming and have a 100 acre property in the goulburn region of nsw. The farm has established infrastructure such as fencing, crush and dams so we were looking to buy some cattle for the property. In this regard i am clueless as to how to buy cattle effectivley in terms of conditioning, gerneral health, price and composition of the herd. I have a Pic and am aware of the regulations i just need help to determine the best course.

I am looking at planting 2 wind breaks to protect the pasture for my stock. In my area it is common practice to use chicken manure to fertilise paddocks followed by the use of Dolimite the following year. This comes with its challengers but pasture responds very well in an area that has very sandy soil in a mountains district close to the coast.
