Sheep handling equipment/ turnover crate

Hi- we are a small operation with ~ 50 white dorpers. We are currently manually handling our sheep (flipping them) in the yards to tend to their feet (clip nails) This is exhausting !! We have been looking for a sheep handler/crate/cradle that will flip sheep. We are happy to pay ~$2000-$3000. We are after something that manually flips them ie/ not pneumatic/air compressor. Just something for our small hobby farm. Any suggestions?? What are other small farmers doing? Many thanks in advance.

Hi Granthaven Pastoral,

Welcome to the forum and thanks for a great question.

My family runs a large sheep farm and during a bad year of foot rot we purchased a manual sheep handler. It worked well and definately made the back breaking task of hoof triming much easier. They are also ideal for completing a number of other sheep husbandry tasks like pregnancy testing, mouthing, crutching, drenching and ear tagging.

The hard part is getting the sheep into it. Once they are in it is easy enough to flip them over and release them once finished. We purchased the machine a number of years ago, it is green in colour, however does not have a brand name on it.

Hi Charlie,

thanks for getting back to me.  We're in the Yarra Valley in Victoria.  Quite wet still in the paddocks- we are trying to keep up our foot care for the Dorpers.  We have been trimming toe nails every 3 months due to the sodden ground.  No foot rot yet that we've seen.  Fingers crossed.  Thanks for the answer on the sheep turn over crate.  I am hoping Arrow might be at the Elmore field day as we are hoping to head up there again. Thanks again for the warm welcome to the forum
