Rain!!

The last real rain was in November and LOTS of 40 degree plus days. The place was dry as a chip, we have sold all but our core herd and flock and we have been feeding them. How things have changed, 200mm over the last three days and we have full dams AND even grass growing noticibly. Timing is perfect as the weather is still warm for pasture growth. The profile will be full after this so is time to start sowing :-)

Anyone else had good rain?

Cheers

Rob

Hi Rob,

same here. No rain since November and then, not much. All water holes dry and even the spring had dried up for the first time ever. Dams were dropping and the pasture non-existant. All there was in the paddocks was dust. Have been feeding the stock for the past three months and am down to my last two round bales and none available. Feed lot finisher starts at $500.00 a tonne and rising. Then miracle of miracles, rain!!

Have had 145 ml in three days and the water holes and dams are almost full. However, being a grazier I guess we are never satisfied because the hay I had ordered couldn't be cut because the bloke broke a needle on his baler last week and now he can't get into the padock because it's flooded. Then of course, there is the fact that the ground is so wet now that the feed truck may not be able to get in next Thursday to deliver the feed I need. Hoever, none of that mattered as when it started to rain I had to go outside and dance around in it until I was soaked to the skin! There is nothing to lift your spirits like the smell of the fresh air after rain and today there is a flush of green in the paddocks. As this area is sub-tropical we should get some reasonable  pasture growth before winter- life is good.

Cheers,

Barb

Good news all round then Barb. Checking early this morning as there is nothing to do, you would bog a duck out there. Can't even get across the creek on the main road to town so it's time to sit and enjoy :)
