Typical seasonal variability coastal NSW

Hello,

Does anyone know where I can get typical carrying capacity variability for coastal, northern NSW month by month? I've seen the DPI website and they give average carry capacity per hectare, but I'm interested in getting a rough idea of how variable the average is. We are looking at a couple of farms, potentially around Gloucester, or more coastal between Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour.

Based on the DPI site we are guessing an average ~8DSE/Ha, but how would that vary month by month throughout the year? For example would it range from 6 to 10?

Thanks for any help!

Hi,

Welcome to the small farm forum and thanks for the question.

You are correct, in that there will be a large variation in carrying capacity throughout the season.

Below is a link to the MLA average pasture growth rates, you can calculate carrying capacity using these figures.

Hi Chrisco,

Welcome to the small farm forum and thanks for the question.

If you head over to our Facebook page and post your question there, one of our members will be able to point you in the right direction. If you can indicate the area you are from , also are you looking for dorper or damara sheep?
