Introduction

Hi, my wife and I are hoping this will be the answer to our retirement. We are both sick of working for THE MAN and wish to start a small farm down around Cowra way. It's all new to us and we are ready for some adventure. We just want to have a farm that will make us 90 % self sufficient by growing vegetables, herbs and some fruit and by raising some cattle, and chooks. It won't be too big at around 6. Acres but we hope to have fun learning along the way. Look forward to reading a lot Mark and Deb.

Hi Mark! My farm is near cowra, at Wyangala we have some good soils and terrible soils around here. If you are looking at acreage I advise to take a shovel, some of our earth is shale and white clay and some is a beautiful sandy loam. Wishing you all the best in your farm adventures ! Kaz

Thanks Barb and Kaz.

Most of the soil types we have looked at are the redish volcanic soil.

Thank you for the tip though I never gave much thought to bad soil.

Hi Mark and Deb,

My partner and I are the same. We live in Sydney and are looking at properties in the mid North Coast of NSW. We have found one that looks suitable so hopefully we can claim this one! It is 5 acres so we will need to look at what type of livestock is suitable and how many on this small property. There is 3 x 5,000 gallon water tanks and 2 dams so hopefully we will be fine for water.

Looking forward to learning from this group.
