Hi Roger, Welcome to the small farm forum and thanks for the question. We have had other clients use the following cattle yard suppliers, Australian Stockyards Golburn http://australianstockyards.com.au/ or Red River Rural https://www.redriverrural.com.au/ Do let us know your experience and the design you select? Regards, Charlie

Hi Roger,

Apologies, I will have our developer investigate the error message you received when posting using your mobile phone.

The main factors to consider regarding the location of the cattle yards will be:
- vehicle access for loading and unloading, including wet weather
- gradual slope to ensure water run off so the yards do not become boggy
- central location to reduce mustering time and distance to the yards. Aso, if you are planning on lane ways it would be good to complete a farm plan first.
- access to water and other infrastructure. During yard weaning it is good to have the yards located close to other sheds for ease of access to hay and water.

Do any of the supply companies you are dealing with offer an onsite appraisal, maybe you can degotiate an inspection as part of the package?

Regards,
Charlie

We “borrowed” two hours of a local farmers time today. Arrow ,for example , didn’t want to come out, lots of companies want the $ but not so interested in helping the smaller farmers (obviously there isn’t as much $$ in it). We have zero flat ground so best location is important to us.

Hi Roger,

That's interesting that no stock yard company would come out and visit the site particularly if they are local.

Anyway, pleased that you managed to get some advice from a local farmer.

Regards,
Charlie

Russell, Done but what’s your opinion of open rail vs solid yards? Any spare rain would be good as well
