Introduction

Hi all,

My wife and I have just bought 12 hectares near Beechworth and have millions of ideas. We want to set up a hobby farm/organic market garden in the future and run a few animals also.

We have a fully fenced block (no interior fencing) which is quite wet during the winter - it has a waterway inside one boundary. We don't have any experience farming, but are quick studies and keen gardeners in the 'burbs where we live now. Our house for the property is currently being designed and will hopefully be going up next year, so we can't do anything until the site is chosen. We've found a '51 Fergie tractor that will do the job for a few years (I hope), but now we need to find a ute/truck that can handle the wet on the property during winter.

I've done a bit of research on different industries such as hazelnuts, beef, or garlic and would love to have quite a diverse farm. We're not quite sure how to get started/what to do first/how to go about setting up and are looking for any helpful information.

Has anyone done something similar or got some good suggestions?

Looking forward to any replies :)

Peter
