Hi there :-)

Hi there

Just thought I would introduce myself here. We have a small hobby farm in QLD. Have been here for 12 months now. Have two jersey cows (one milking and one bludging), meat and egg chooks, khaki campbell ducks, two bee hives, guinea pigs, dogs and cats.  Have found the past year has been a massive learning curve for us. We are keen to run as close to organic as we can. We are also a Wildlife Land Trust refuge and are planting out tubestock native trees to try and revegetate the place. Ideally I would love to earn an income from the farm but at this stage we both work off the farm. Hoping to get two pigs in the new year and start planting more trees when some regularish rain starts happening.

So far some of the things we have had to learn about is Marek's disease in chickens (been chook keeping for over 14 years and never come across it before), beekeeping in general, how cows may look pregnant and not be pregnant, pasture management, milking, identifying pest species of fish (the Museum is always helpful), working out that the pretty flowers in the paddock is actually Fireweed and today I learnt all about how house water pressure pumps work after ours decided not to work anymore!

Still, despite the challenges we love it here and wouldnt have it any other way ;-)

Sounds like you are off and running with your setup. It would be interesting to see some photos of the place and more over time as the trees grow and your plans come together. It would be a good resource for others with the same dream.

BTW, welcome to the forum Laughing

Cheers

Rob.
