Best way to sell small farm produce

Hi gang,

 

What's the best method of selling produce (i.e. meat, hay, wool, eggs, etc.) from a small farm? Can a lower middle class living be made selling through local farmers markets and online sites exclusively in this day and age?

Hi Jac,

Welcome to the forum. 

In short I would say yes, you can earn a living from selling your products at farmers markets and online. By selling through either chanel you are trying to capture more of the value (which usually sits closer to the consumer) by cuting out the middel man. It will be important for you to develop a brand along with a point of difference or story that consumers can buy into.

Some producers set their own websites up and sell that way or the alternative you could list your products on a website like farmhouse direct which is a virtual marketplace allowing customers to buy direct from the person who grows or makes the product.

Do any other members have experience selling their products online or through farmers markets?
