Hi All - COMPLETLY new to farming

Hi All,

From what I have read so far on the site, its really interesting, helpfull and a great site.  Just to tell you a bit about myself and why I am here.

Originally from Melbourne and moved to the south of Tassie, I've always wanted a small farm for myselfg, wife and my 2 boys to live on.  Well we just rented our place out and we bought a 5.8 acre farm on level ground.  It came with 4 sheep which the owners named "Living lawn mowers".

Im going to need a heap of help from you all as we start out.  My ideal picture of the farm would be to have a little bit of fruit and veggies just for ourselves and some sheep and cattle to breed and sell.  Not on a big scale just a little working farm and have the odd cow or sheep butchered for ourselves.  Its not meant to be a big money maker as my wife and I still work, but a little income to cover some farm expenses and a couple tax deductions.  But most of all an awesome upbringing for my family especially my boys.

I would love any advice you can provide on anything and everything.  I would like to know about the best economical fencing for sheep and cows to keep them at bay.  The current fencing is keeping the sheep in just fine.  Looking after sheep and cows including feeding, tagging and selling, any help really would be awesome.

Thanks in advance for any help, recommendations etc. that you can provide.

Cheers

Rob
