How to make a few bucks off the land

Hi everyone was hoping someone could assist me. My partner and I are about to make an offer on an amazing parcel of land up in Birdwood South Australia. The land it approximately 25 ha and is currently used for grazing. It’s a simple parcel of land divided up into 3 or 4 paddocks (all electric fences), and is a mixture of flat and hills, all land is grazable and there is plenty of water around.

From what I could see there is 17 head of cattle running around the property at the moment. Other farms near by seem to be running cattle and sheep or growing vines or olives. My question is what are peoples recommendation on how to make a few extra $$$ off this land. I’m not looking to make thousands of dollars just something to supplement my current income.

Does anyone have an idea on how much money could be made from the following 'ventures'

- Cattle or sheep agistment

- Horse agistment

- Purchasing livestock to fatten up then sell

Thanks

Marten

We are also new to farming (having bought 50 ha) and are currently asking the same questions.

I have had a fair bit of experience with horse agistment though (currently president of a non-profit community agistment facility)

and have ruled it out for our own place due to the high insurance costs (public liability etc), wear and tear on facilities, inconsistant

owners, etc. (Most people who agist have one or two horses, and come out once or twice a day. Others won't look after their horses

welfare and it will be left to you to chase them up or pay the vets bill when something goes wrong). We are looking into having sheep

agisted on our place (dealing with one person whose livelihood depends on his animals) and baling a 20 acre (8 ha) paddock to

sell to local horse owners. We will also have dorper sheep and a couple of head of cattle for our own consumption (saving money).
