Hello! 50 Acres on the South Coast NSW

Hello there,

My name is Lilly and I've been living with my family on our 53 Acre property (4 hours south of Sydney) for about 15 years now. In now a new mum and have purchased a share in the property with my partner, so it's now the two of us along with my Mother. We have a few hand reared sheep, chooks, a few horses and have had a handful of cattle in the past but none for a few years now.

We have always wanted to do something with our land that would allow us to drop a work day here and there, but we can never find the right advice on what would suit our property. Unfortunately, despite decent topsoil, it turns to clay very quickly so veggies aren't a great option for us. Our pasture is native, so livestock don't get super fat on it but they do well in the warmer months. Saying that, my three pet sheep are always hugely obese!

We are interested in any suggestions or advice. We've been tossing around the idea of growing dorper lambs, as well as a few trees for cut flower bunches (Christmas Bush)... we've even thrown around the idea of aquaculture. But honestly the options are overhelming and it's hard to find the right guidance on where to start or what would suit. I have always had a strong interest in animal breeding and management and my partner is handy as far as fencing and pasture maintenance. Surely there's something out there for us that will let us use our land in a way that gets us some more time at home with our little one!

Thanks so much in advance,
Lilly
