Growing Pomegranates in WA

Hi, I stumbled across this forum. Looks like a great resource!! A little about my self below.

We own a 5 acre property near Bunbury, WA. Purchased in 2010 it was used as a lifestyle block to "get away" from suburbia to raise our 3 sons (even though we are only 5 min from town)  but now are looking at ways to produce a modest income from the property as the boys have grown up into their dreaded teenage years. In august 2016 we planted 50 Pomegranate trees and have room for around 300 more. We are growing organically so have also started a worm farm to feed the trees and vege garden and also a few wiltshire sheep and chooks around the place. Still researching the varieties that are best suited to our region before we plant more next year but is looking promising so far. Hoping to chat with anyone who is interested in Pomegranates or organic growing techniques. Learning so much all the time!!

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris, we are also looking at planting some Pomegranates next year, we are still at the research stage and hoping to get some info and support from Ag Dept in near future. We are near Capel and looking to plant 2-3 acres to begin with and hopefully fertilise with our manure byproducts...horses and cows.  Can I ask how you plan to irrigate them, I know they are a drought tolerant plant but for commercial plantings they seem to recommend irrigation.

Would welcome your thoughts.

Hi Peta Yes they like regular water through summer, we are using rainwater and a bore via drip irrigation. We also have access to irrigation from Harvey Water. Feel free to send an email to discuss offline if you like. snibbo2atbigpond.com Chris
