Hoping to begin a dream

Hi all!

Me and my partner are fairly young (20 and 21) but are looking at buying lnd in the next year or so and start farming. I'm from a long line of farmers, the last being my grandfathers (one being a sheep farmer and crops, the other growing up on a dairy farm), however my dad grew up on a farm, and worked there until his 20's. I studied Ag in high school and really loved it.

I've been doing a little research for a few months and really love the idea of a "mini farm" with miniature stock, just because I've read they're easier to handle, and I'm not particularly large myself! I found this site by accident, and thought I'd join to see if I can find out anymore about miniature cattle, pigs and sheep?

My partner wants to be a primary producer, but I'm happy just having a small/hobby farm, any info on primamry producers would be great too if possible.

I apologise or any typos, my keyboard is a bit dodgy and naturally, I'll miss some mistakes :)

I look forward to your advice and such!

Hi Jstar,

Welcome to Farmstyle nice to have you as part of the community. There are plenty of people just like you who are dreaming of one day owning their own piece of land. It's great that you are doing plenty of research, one of the main things you will need to decide is whether you want to make a living from the farm, have it as a supplentary income or just run it has a hooby and something you enjoy doing.

If you can firstly answer this question you will then be able to take the next step and ensure that any farm you purchase will meet these needs and desires.

What area are you from, is this where you would one day like to buy a farm?

Regards,

Charlie
